The size of Hawaii has resulted in there being only one school district which is one and the same with the Hawaii Department of Education.
In 1991 the State of Hawaii was considering a mentoring program approach which was designed to use both assistance and assessment of new teachers. Apparently this proposal never was approved, or at least was never funded.
In 1995 the Honolulu Schools had developed the Teacher Assist Program (TAP) which provides a three member support team to guide and assist beginning teachers.
As of 1998 I know of no other mentoring or induction program in Hawaii.
