Format- After an opening general presentation, the workshop will utilize a repeated cycle to address each program component, including:
- Presentation of information about the program component
- Expert advice for using the information to self-assess and plan improvements
- General discussion in the whole group regarding the component, sharing other's experiences and ideas
- Time for your team to review the information, assess your needs, and design program components or program improvements
- Expert consulting during the team work times
- Questions & answers about the component and process
Content- Barry will share from his 13 years of experience as a mentor trainer, program coordinator, author, and mentoring consultant working nation-wide with all kinds of organizations. Whether you have an existing program or are developing a new program, this work shop will amaze you with terrific practical strategies to increase your program's power and impact. - Program purposes, mentoring for what? What's the potential? Designing to achieve your purposes.
- The relationship between high impact mentoring and effective student learning and achievement
- The essential components needed to make a high impact program, their role, and their interaction
- The sequence of the most effective steps for program development
- Characteristics of quality induction and mentoring programs
- Effective strategies for selecting and matching
- How to support mentoring and celebrate the successes to promote greater success
- Rubrics for mentoring programs and mentoring practices
- How to evaluate the program & demonstrate its success
- Linking induction to other improvement initiatives to save resources and increase impact
