The Core Mentoring
Principles
By Barry Sweeny © 2008
Where do we start when we need to create
a new mentoring program or refine an existing
one?
If we are concerned about using mentoring to (among
other things) increase teacher and student performance, then we
must use the existing knowledge base of best practices which are
most likely to provide these desired results. If those are your
program goals you should look to these Core Principles as your starting
place. This information offers the foundation for building a highly
effective program and high impact mentoring practices. As starting
places, they will head you in the right direction. Of course, these
alone are not enough to make such complex goals a reality. Using
these just increases the chances that later decisions you make will
be correct for attaining those goals.
